How to Split a PDF
- Choose your PDF. Felx reads the file and shows how many pages it has.
- Enter the pages. Separate single pages with commas and use a hyphen for a range. For example,
1,3,5takes pages 1, 3 and 5, and2-4takes pages 2, 3 and 4. You can combine them:1,4-6,10. - Choose the output. One PDF puts all selected pages into a single file. Separate files creates one PDF for each number or range you typed, packed into a ZIP.
- Select Split PDF and download. Pages appear in the order you typed them.
If you type a page that does not exist — say page 12 in a 10-page file — Felx tells you exactly which number is out of range rather than silently skipping it.
How does Felx Split PDF work?
Splitting a PDF does not cut anything up. Felx creates a new, empty PDF and copies the pages you asked for into it, along with the fonts and images those pages use. The original file on your device is never changed.
Because pages are copied rather than re-rendered, quality is identical to the original: text remains searchable and selectable, and images are not recompressed. Pages you leave out are simply not copied, which is why an extracted file is usually smaller than the original.
When you choose Separate files, each entry you typed becomes its own document. Typing 1-2,3,4-10 gives three PDFs. They are bundled into one ZIP download so your browser does not have to show a separate prompt for every file.
Everything happens inside your browser with the open-source pdf-lib library. Your PDF is not uploaded to Felx servers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change the order of pages while splitting?
Yes. Pages are output in the order you type them, so 3,1,2 produces a PDF that starts with page 3.
How do I extract a single page?
Type just that page number, for example 7, and choose One PDF.
How do I split every page into its own file?
Select Separate files and type the full range, for example 1,2,3,4,5. Each number becomes its own PDF inside the ZIP.
Does splitting work on scanned PDFs?
Yes. A scanned page is just a page with an image on it, and it is copied like any other page.
Why does it say my PDF is protected?
The file is encrypted with a password. Remove the password in the program that created it, then split the unlocked copy.
