How to Resize an Image
- Choose an image. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP files are supported. The current dimensions fill in automatically.
- Enter a new width or height. With Keep aspect ratio ticked, changing one value updates the other so the picture is not stretched. Or use the 25%, 50% and 75% shortcuts.
- Untick Keep aspect ratio for an exact size, such as 600 × 600 for a square profile photo. The image will be stretched or squashed to fit those exact numbers.
- Select Resize image and download. The new dimensions and file size are shown.
Government and exam portals often ask for photos at specific pixel sizes and file sizes. Resize here first, then use the Image Compressor if the file is still above the limit.
How does Felx Image Resizer work?
A digital image is a grid of coloured pixels. Resizing means calculating a new grid: when you make an image smaller, several original pixels are blended into each new pixel; when you make it larger, new pixels are filled in between the existing ones.
Felx draws your image onto a canvas at the new size using the browser’s high-quality smoothing. For big reductions — say from 4000 pixels wide down to 800 — it scales down in several halving steps rather than one jump. This keeps fine detail and edges cleaner and avoids the jagged look of a single large reduction.
The output keeps your original format where possible: JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG (with transparency), and WebP stays WebP. GIF and BMP files are saved as PNG. Animated GIFs become a single still frame.
Enlarging an image cannot add detail that was not captured, so big increases will look soft. Everything runs in your browser; your image is not uploaded to Felx servers.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does “keep aspect ratio” mean?
The aspect ratio is the relationship between width and height. Keeping it means the picture is scaled evenly, so people and objects do not look stretched or squashed.
Does resizing reduce file size?
Making an image smaller in pixels almost always reduces the file size, often a lot. Making it larger increases the file size.
What is the maximum size I can resize to?
Up to 10,000 pixels on either side, within a total of about 40 megapixels so the result works reliably on phones and tablets.
How do I resize to a size in centimetres?
Multiply the size in centimetres by the print resolution and divide by 2.54. For example, 3.5 cm at 300 DPI is 3.5 × 300 ÷ 2.54 ≈ 413 pixels.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Resizing is done in your browser and the image never leaves your device.
