How to Edit a PDF

  1. Open your PDF. Choose a file or drop it on the box above. Every page appears in the editor, with thumbnails on the left.
  2. Pick a tool from the toolbar. Use Add text to type anywhere, Edit existing text to change words that are already in the PDF, or the drawing, highlight, shape, whiteout, image and signature tools.
  3. Adjust what you added. Select an item to move it, resize it with the corner handles, or change its font, size, colour, border, fill and opacity in the bar under the toolbar.
  4. Organise pages if needed. In the pages panel you can rotate, move, duplicate or delete a page, add a blank page, or insert pages from another PDF.
  5. Select Save PDF and download. You can keep editing and save again as often as you like.

Made a mistake? Undo and redo work for every change, including page changes. Press Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac) to undo and Ctrl+Y to redo.

How does the Felx PDF Editor work?

Felx draws each page with Mozilla’s PDF.js and keeps your changes as a separate layer on top. Nothing is flattened while you work, so every addition stays movable and editable until you save.

When you save, the open-source pdf-lib library writes your text, shapes, highlights, images and signatures straight into the original PDF. The rest of the document is left as it was: existing text remains real, searchable text, links and bookmarks are kept, and pages are not turned into pictures.

Editing text that is already in the PDF

A PDF does not store paragraphs the way a Word file does – it stores positioned pieces of text. With Edit existing text, Felx outlines each line it finds. Click one and Felx covers the original line with a box in the matching background colour, then places editable text with the same size, weight and colour exactly on top. The result looks as if the line had been edited in place.

Covering hides the old words but does not delete them from the file. If the old content must be gone for good – for example a changed amount or a private detail – tick Permanently remove covered content before saving. Pages with covers are then saved as high-resolution images with your new text on top, so the hidden text cannot be copied or searched.

Forms and signatures

If the PDF has fillable fields, they become live boxes, tick boxes and drop-down lists on the page. Fill them in and save; tick Flatten form fields if the answers should no longer be editable. For signatures you can draw with a mouse or finger, type your name in a handwriting style, or upload a photo of your signature – Felx removes the white paper background for you.

All of this happens on your device. Your PDF is not sent to Felx servers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change the text that is already in my PDF?

Yes. Choose Edit existing text and click any line. Felx replaces it with editable text in a matching size and colour. You can also change the font, size or colour afterwards, or delete the text completely.

Will the edited PDF have a watermark?

No. Felx never adds a watermark, logo or extra page to your documents.

How do I sign a PDF?

Select the Signature tool. Draw your signature, type your name, or upload a picture of it, then select Place signature. Drag it to the signature line and resize it with a corner handle. The signature is reused for the rest of your session, so you can sign several pages quickly.

Is whiteout safe for hiding private information?

On its own, whiteout only covers content visually; the words underneath are still inside the file and could be copied. To remove them for good, tick Permanently remove covered content before saving.

Can I type in Hindi or use the rupee symbol (₹)?

Yes. Text in any language your device can display is supported. Characters that the built-in PDF fonts cannot store, such as ₹ or Devanagari, are saved as a sharp high-resolution image of the text so they always look right.

Can I fill in a PDF form?

Yes. Fillable fields in the PDF appear as boxes you can type into, plus tick boxes, radio buttons and drop-down lists. For forms without fillable fields, use Add text to type on the lines.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. All tools work with touch. The full-screen button gives you more room, and the pages panel slides in when you need it.

Why does it say my PDF is protected?

The file is encrypted with a password. Remove the password in the program that created it, then open the unlocked copy here.
